Shivpal not to rejoin SP

Friday, 04 October 2019 | PNS | Lucknow

Shivpal Singh Yadav, the estranged uncle of Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav said here on Thursday that he was open for a coalition with the SP.

Shivpal Yadav, who has formed his own Pragatisheel Samajwadi Party (Lohia), however said he would not rejoin the Samajwadi Party.

Shivpal, who is the younger brother of SP patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav, left the party and formed his own party before the UP Assembly polls in 2017. His Pragatisheel Samajwadi Party (Lohia) was officially recognised in October 2018.

“I created my party after much thought and a long wait. I never wanted to part ways with Samajwadi Party but still had to do so. The conspirators of Samajwadi Party were successful in their attempt. I worked for long in Samajwadi Party and after a long struggle along with Netaji (Mulayam Singh Yadav) we had made it a big party,” Shivpal said on whether he would rejoin SP.

Previously in June, after the drubbing Samajwadi Party received in the Lok Sabha polls, party founder Mulayam Singh Yadav had launched fresh efforts to end acrimony between his son Akhilesh Yadav and brother Shivpal Singh Yadav. The SP patriarch had separately met Akhilesh and Shivpal and the entire clan to settle their differences.   The meetings had taken place in Delhi and Saifai in Uttar Pradesh. However, Mulayam’s efforts did not yield results as Shivpal refused to merge his PSPL with SP.
