A low budget short film with a big social message, "Raju Ki Diwali" was released on the social media today on Wednesday. All actors are voluntary contributors from different fields and the lead character of the film ‘Raju’ is enacted by Himanshu, a class VII boy studying in a school at Khanna Nagar. The film is shot with the assistance of Nehru Yuva Kendra.
Social worker Vishal Garg who runs his opticals shop in the heart of the city has
played the character of a police cop who gives words of wisdom to Raju which change his life. The lead role is played by an educationist SK Batra who plays the role of grandfather of Raju and has tuberculosis.
The producer Vishal Garg said, "The film shows the difficult life of a child Raju whose grandfather is sick and they are running the house by taking loans.
Raju becomes adamant to go for shopping. His grandfather asks him to sell earthen diyas for which he goes to the city from his village but no one supports him.
Finally, the inspector guides him to tell about his diyas to public in the form of poetry which touches everyone's hearts.
All his diyas are sold and he returns home with money. The director of the film and secretary of Jawahar Lal Nehru Yuva Kendra, Sukhbir Singh Dheendsa said that the film is a satire on plight of poor people and potters who do not get rightful dues
for their labour and are forced to lead a life of poverty.The script is written by MS Nawaz.
Batra said that the adverse effect of globalisation is that the cottage industry workers and artisans are forced to lead a deprived life while mechanisation has replaced the age long traditions and professions.
The 10-minute long short film touches many social issues.
