On the issue of shortage of teachers in the Government colleges of the State, the activists of National Students Union of India (NSUI), held a vehement protest on streets of the State Capital on Saturday. Large number of the NSUI workers assembled at Rajiv Bhawan, the State headquarters of State Congress on the day and marched to the residence of Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat. They shouted slogans against the Government for being responsible for degrading the academic environment in the colleges.
The NSUI workers also demanded resignation of the minister of State for higher education Dhan Singh Rawat. The march of the NSUI workers was stopped by the police near Hathibadkala police station. The police personnel had to use minor force to stop the protesting workers.
The State president of NSUI, Mohan Bhandari, said that Dhan Singh Rawat had assured that before August 1, temporary and permanent teachers would be appointed in all the colleges. He said that the assurance of the Minister proved wrong against which the NSUI is holding agitation.
The NSUI workers also expressed their anger on the manner in which the semester system was removed by State Government.
