Situation under control but PAC still posted

Following clash between members of two communities over the issue of bursting fireworks on Deepawali night in Manglaur area of Haridwar district, the situation has reportedly returned to normal. However, the authorities have kept the Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) posted in the area.

According to sources, the argument started when members of a community objected to members of another community bursting crackers in Libberhedi village.

The argument escalated and shortly afterwards, members of the two communities started pelting stones at each other. The violence resulted in injuries to five persons.

The injured were admitted in the hospital and are reported to be out of danger.

The police reached the site and brought the situation under control. Considering the seriousness of the issue personnel of the Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) have been posted in the village, said officials.

The incident took place at about 9 pm on Deepawali night when a group of villagers was bursting crackers nearby a shop in the village. When the group bursting crackers was told to stop by a group from another community, they had a heated argument. People from both the communities reportedly reached the site and attempted to diffuse the situation without success. The groups then started pelting stones at each other which resulted in injuries to five persons. The police have lodged a case and apprehended some of the accused.

The situation is reported to be under control in the village. However, the PAC has been kept posted in the area to ensure law and order.
