Six killed in blast in firecracker unit

Blast in a firecracker unit in Etah led to the death of six persons, including three children, and left several others critically injured on Saturday afternoon.
The injured were shifted to a hospital while police officers rushed to the spot and started investigation to ascertain the cause of the explosion.
The blast occurred in the house of Naresh and Munni Devi in Takia locality under Mirhachi police station. Munni Devi has a licence for manufacturing firecrackers.
The explosion was so powerful that even the adjoining houses developed cracks on the walls while the one in which the firecrackers were made collapsed.
Those who died in the blast were identified as Munni Devi, Kusjina, Soni, Rajani, Sheetal and an unidentified youth.
The injured identified as Madhuri, Nutan, Meera Devi, Rishabh, Prateek were rushed to a hospital.
Some persons were suspected to be trapped under the rubble and efforts were being made to extricate them.
Meanwhile, in Ranipur area of Mau, a clash over a land dispute resulted in the death of three persons and injuries to four late Friday night.
After the clash between two families over a pond land in Mathia village, tension ran high and additional police force was deployed in the village.
The police said on Saturday that both families had been disputing the other’s ownership over the land for the last 20 years. On Friday night, things took an ugly turn when Tuntun Chauhan along with his supporters attacked Shivendra Chauhan.
In the attack Shivendra (50) and his wife Gita Devi (45) were killed while four members of their family, including Shivendra’s father, were critically injured.
In retaliation, Shivendra’s supporters caught hold of Tuntun Chauhan (40) and lynched him.
The injured were rushed to a hospital in Varanasi, where the condition of all four was stated to be critical.
Senior police officials had reached the village and investigations were underway.
