South civic body to construct  six primary schools in city

To cater the need of the students, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh laid foundation stone of construction six primary schools that would be constructed by South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) across its jurisdiction.

Singh who was present at Indira Kalyan Vihar Primary school (Okhla Phase I) inaugurated the construction work of other five schools through video conferencing.

Lauding the efforts of the SDMC, he said that the schools under the civic body are not only providing quality education but making students responsible citizens of the country. Keeping in view the present atmosphere, it is needed to invite values of patriotism in the students of SDMC schools; this will help them in making aware about the unity and harmony of the countrymen, he said.

He said that schools should imbibe the values of good character and moral ethics in the students. “The proper infrastructure and facilities are essential to provide a conducive atmosphere for learning, reading and writing in the schools. The SDMC has provided the best furniture, smart classrooms, CCTV cameras, digital boards, different kind of models for convenient learning, fiber made advanced swings and open gyms, ROs, water purifiers, science clubs, computer rooms and other facilities,” he said.

As part of ongoing comprehensive project of the SDMC to expand educational infrastructure and bringing remarkable changes in its primary schools, the civic body also dedicated three newly constructed buildings of primary schools, a SDMC official said. 

A senior SDMC official said the construction of new building of schools has been started at Indira Kalyan Vihar, Okhla Phase I, Harkesh Nagar, and Lal Kuan Chungi. “All these schools would be multi-storied with 165 classrooms, earthquake resistant and open playgrounds. An estimated cost of the project is Rs14, 55, 00, 000,” he said.

He also said that Rs10, 45, 00,000 has been spent for constructions of new buildings in three schools. The designs of these schools have been finalised as per the needs of the school children, he said.
