Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav will file his nomination papers from Azamgarh Lok Sabha constituency on Thursday.
Before filing his papers, Akhilesh Yadav will hold a roadshow along with some senior leaders of the alliance partners in Azamgarh.
SP spokesperson Rajendra Chaudhary said in Lucknow on Wednesday that after filing of the nomination papers, the alliance partners would address a rally at Bithauli.
Polling in Azamgarh will be held in the sixth phase on May 12.
By choosing to contest from Azamgarh, Akhilesh has changed his constituency for a third time. Earlier, he had won the parliamentary elections from Kannauj and Firozabad.
In the 2014 elections, SP patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav was elected from Mainpuri and Azamgarh constituencies but he had retained the latter seat. Mulayam had won the Azamgarh seat by over 1.60 lakh votes, defeating Bharatiya Janata Party’s Ramakant Yadav, who recently joined the Congress and has been fielded from Bhadohi. This time the SP patriarch has shifted to his traditional Mainpuri seat.
Akhilesh Yadav is pitted against BJP candidate and Bhojpuri actor and singer Dinesh Lal Yadav alias Nirahua. The Congress has announced that it would not field any candidate from Azamgarh.
Earlier, Akhilesh had announced to contest from his wife Dimple Yadav’s Kannauj seat but later decided to field her from there.
