The Samajwadi Party, State unit on Monday submitted a memorandum to Governor Prof Ganeshi Lal seeking his intervention for early withdrawal of the CBSE examination fee hike decision.
“The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has suddenly increased the examination fees Class X and XII students by 24 times from Rs 50 to Rs 1,200 for SC and ST students and by two times from 750 to Rs 1500 for General category students. The migration fee, which was earlier Rs 150 has now been increased to Rs 350. Such arbitrary hikes betray the universalization of free and compulsory education. The decision should be withdrawn,” read the memorandum.
The delegates comprised party president Rabi Behera, general secretary Sudarshan Pradhan, leaders Sanjay Nayak and Bijay Behera and CBSE School Guardians’ Committee representative Niranjan Nayak handed over the memorandum to the Governor. The Governor assured them that he would take up the matter with the Ministry of Human Resource Development soon.
