The Samajwadi Party (SP) coordinator and former state president of the party Satyanarayan Sachan said that the party would announce the name of the lone candidate from Garhwal constituency after the Holi festival. He further said that the party has prepared a tentative candidate list which contain four names . “We would zero in on the candidate soon,” he added.
Notably, as per the seat-sharing formula thrashed by Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) and SP, while the former would contest from four of the five constituencies of the state the latter would contest from one constituency-the Garhwal. It is learnt from the SP sources that two of the four tentative candidates of the list hail from Pauri district and another one is from the army background.
Talking to The Pioneer on Tuesday, Sachan said, “Talks are now going on about the candidate between the state party unit and the national president of the party Akhilesh Yadav. Things are progressing fast and just after the name of the candidate is announced, we would plunge headlong into the canvassing,” he said.
Speaking of the importance of the Garhwal constituency, he said that his party is happy to contest from the seat. Asked whether they stand an outside chance of winning the seat against Congress and BJP, the SP leader said that they are contesting to win. “The people here are disillusioned with both the Congress and BJP. Both are engaged in serving themselves under the garb of serving the people. The people having seen through them would reject them during the poll,” he said.
