Speeding cluster bus mows down youth; driver arrested

In a tragic incident, a 20-year-old youth, riding a scooty, was allegedly mowed down by a speeding cluster bus. The incident occurred on Monday evening at Shahjahan Road in New Delhi. Police said that they arrested the accused driver.

The deceased has been identified as Aman Kumar, a resident of Delhi’s Khan Market area while the accused, who was arrested from spot, has been identified as Balwant Singh (42).

According to First Information Report (FIR) registered at Tughlak Road police station in New Delhi district, the incident occurred at 7.38 pm on Tuesday.

"A cluster bus, rash and recklessly, coming from India Gate on Shahjahan road hit a person who was driving a scooty. The scooty rider got injured and he was rushed to nearby hospital by a passerby in a car. The bus driver was stopped by public on the spot and handed over to police," stated the FIR.

"Subsequently, a police team after receiving a police control room (PCR) call also reached AIIMS where the doctors told police that the victim Aman succumbed during treatment," said a senior police official adding that a case under section 279/304-A of Indian Penal Code (IPC) was registered and the accused driver was arrested.

"New Delhi district's police crime team had also inspected the spot. The bus has been seized. Further investigation is going on," said the police official.
