Lieutenant Colonel Jay Prakash has unfurled the flag of his alma matter Sainik School Tilaiya at the highest peak of the world Mount Everest on may 16, 2019. In a letter written to SST students, teachers and others the Lieutenant Colonel has stated that it was a matter of happiness and pride that he was able to unfurl the school’s flag at the highest peak of the world for the first time.
The SST alumnus said that the flag had begun its journey in August 2017, when he started trekking Mount Nun (7135 M) in Ladakh. Later, the flag was taken to Dev Tibba (6001 M) in Himachal Pradesh in may-June 2018. Further it was taken to Jogin-1 (6465 M) and Jogin-2 (6116 M) in Uttarakhand in August-September 2018.
Lt Col Jay Prakash said that before the flag’s journey to the Everest, it was taken to Lebuche Mountain (6119 M) on Aoril 20, 2019. He started climbing the Mount Everest on May 12 from base camp at 6364 M and on May 16 he reached the peak of the world.
“The flag stayed with me as a friend for two years and it witnessed all those hurdles that came in the difficult way. It continued the journey with the on those routes that were very difficult to pass through. It remained with me during bad weather, hail and several other natural adversities. And, at last it won the highest peak of the world,” said Lt Col Jay Prakash.
He credited the achievement to all the teachers, seniors and all Tilaiyan friends. “When I return, I will gift the flag to school. I wish we all keep flying high like this flag in our lives,” he added.
