In final lap of its membership enrolment drive, Delhi Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) has registered 15 lakh members so far and with this number, the national Capital is on top achieving the target on the basis of membership percentage.
Buoyed by the ground swell for the Delhi BJP, the state leaders feel that party's chances at the hustings would be far better with the increasing number of members who have joined the party in the ongoing 'membership drive'.
Talking to The Pioneer at state BJP office at Pt Marg , leaders said the numbers are game changer for the upcoming high decibel Delhi Assembly elections as the remarkable increase in
the numbers will further enhance the vote
percentage upto 36 percent which is now 33 percent.
A swing of three percent in overall polled votes will brighten the chances of the BJP in winning the crucial assembly polls which are due in February, 2019.
On the successful completion of membership drive, Delhi BJP President Manoj Tiwari said that several Congress and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders have joined BJP as primary
members of the party.
"BJP party is transparent, effective and leaders of BJP are open for booth level workers," said Tiwari. "For the large number of participation, credit should go to workers who visited door to door and contact Delhi people," Tiwari added.
In Delhi, the new membership drive was launched on July 7, and the deadline was set for August 11. The deadline was extended later keeping Monsoon session of the Parliament.
"At times when Congress is faced with the leadership crisis after the sad demise of former chief minister and Delhi Congress president Sheila Dikshit and chances of outsiders are emerging to lead the beleaguered party, the increase in number of BJP members may favor the party in upcoming elections," said Harshdeep Malhotra, the co-incharge of BJP's membership drive in the National Capital.
This may be recalled that the national membership campaign was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Varanasi district of Uttar Pradesh on the birth anniversary of Syama Prasad Mukherjee on July 6.
Malhotra also said that 22000 members also enrolled with the party as active members.
"Membership drive is cost free, earlier it was decided that people registering with BJP may pay Rs 5 to Rs 1000 as donation, later it was decided that membership should be free," said the BJP leader.
Meanwhile, BJP has initiated election process and will decide names for important party posts.
To counter Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) National convener, BJP will decide the names of MLAs.
