State creates ‘directorate for minor minerals’

Wednesday, 21 August 2019 | PNS | BHUBANESWAR

The State Government has created a separate directorate under the administrative control of the Revenue & Disaster Management Department for management of minor minerals.

Named as ‘Directorate of Minor Minerals’, it would work for scientific and sustainable management of minor mineral sources to augment the State’s revenue.

The functions of the directorate include identification of the minor mineral and sairat sources in a scientific manner; preparation of mining plan and environmental management plans of the identified sources as per the applicable laws; lease/settlement of the identified sources in a transparent manner; implementation of various

technology-enabled applications for regulating quarrying and transportation of minor minerals from the leasehold areas.

It would also work for prevention of illegal quarrying and lifting of minor minerals and sairats and augmentation of collection of revenue from minor mineral and sairat sources.
