State Govt bugles siren for non accredited colleges

Sunday, 08 December 2019 | PNS | DALTONGANJ

Colleges having status of being constituent or permanently affiliated going un accredited so far have been given a last chance to get accredited by NAAC latest by May 31, 2020 or face music which will be too harsh.

Sources said director technical, higher education and skill development department government of Jharkhand has sent a letter to this effect to nearly a dozen universities set up in the state like Nilamber PItamber university in Daltonganj, Rai university in Ranchi, Ameti university, Jharkhand Raksha Shakti university Ranchi, Vinod Bihari Mahto university Dhanbad, Sarla Birla university Ranchi, National Institute of Technology Jamshedpur, Arka Jain university Jamshedpur, Jharkhand Pradhyogik university Ranchi etc to get NAAC done positively by May 31st 2020.

A timeline has been given and these non accredited institutions are to adhere to it by all means read the letter of the director which begins from the first week of January 202 and ends on 31.5.2020.

Sources said the government is too much vexed with universities/ constituent colleges/ permanent affiliated colleges not going for NAAC accreditation despite several prodding both from the government and at various levels of meeting of the Chancellor of the state universities Droupadi Murmu who is the governor of Jharkhand. Sources said the universities and colleges are not budging an inch for accreditation by NAAC which is sending out a very poor image of the status of the higher education here in Jharkhand.

Vice chancellor of Nilamber Pitamber university S N Singh said this malaise is very much prevalent in this university too where 3 constituent colleges namely GLA, JS and SJSN college Garhwa are dangling this evaluation and assessment by NAAC over the years.

Singh said two permanent affiliated colleges one B S college at Latehar and the other at Japla based A K Singh college are also hanging this NAAC business in air for years.

Sources said colleges not ready or bracing to face NAAC are for the express reasons of utter lack of infra structures on their campus. Sources said colleges wear a look of neglect as their library, labs, administrative section, academic sector, common rooms for boys and girls, wash rooms, play ground, facility of drinking water supply and water supply in labs etc are either in shabby condition or not available too.

A college teacher preferring anonymity said such colleges do not want to face NAAC as then its grading which is bound to be minus C will leave them nowhere.

Asked that fear of dismal grading by NAAC too is a factor pushing these colleges to avoid NAAC as long as it can to which VC said, “I have asked them to get any grading but go for NAAC.”
