Students pledge to reduce polythene use

Tuesday, 23 April 2019 | PNS | Dehradun

On the occasion of the Earth Day on Monday, the students of the Swami Ram Himalayan University took a pledge to reduce the usage of polythene. A programme on the occasion was organised by the students of the ‘  Biosciences Social Work Students’ Club in the  Department of Biosciences of the university.

In the programme the students took an oath to diminish the use of polythene as it is non-biodegradable. They said that on disposal, polythene breaks down into small highly toxic particles which causes land and air toxicity so its use should be reduced.  On the occasion, the students of the club prepared more than 1000 paper bags from old newspapers. These paper bags were then distributed to the vendors in the local market to spread the awareness of the hazardous impacts of polythene and motivating them for using paper bags instead of polythene bags.

The club faculty in-charge Anupam Dhasmana, Head of Department of Biosciences, Dr Sanjay Gupta and a number of students participated.
