Sudhanshu Trivedi files papers for UP Rajya Sabha bypoll

Saturday, 05 October 2019 | PNS | Lucknow

Bharatiya Janata Party’s national spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi filed his nomination papers for the Rajya Sabha bypoll here on Friday.

He was accompanied by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Deputy Chief Minister Dinesh Sharma, Rajya Sabha member Ashok Bajpai and several party leaders and ministers.

The by-election has been caused by the death of former Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley in August. The term of the seat ends in July 2022.

Trivedi’s win is all but certain due to the huge majority the BJP enjoys in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly.

The articulate Sudhanshu Trivedi, who is equally conversant with Hindi as well as English, will be making his debut in Parliament after being associated with the BJP for a long period.

The candidature of Sudhanshu Trivedi was announced by BJP working president JP Nadda on Thursday.

By nominating Sudhanshu Trivedi for the Rajya Sabha, the BJP has tried to balance the social electoral factor and the party has preferred a person from the organisation rather than a turncoat.

Trivedi has been working for the BJP for the last over two decades. He is known for his proximity to Defence Minister Rajnath Singh. During Rajnath Singh’s tenure as Chief Minister of UP, Trivedi had worked as his media advisor. When Rajnath Singh was BJP president, Trivedi was his political advisor.

Trivedi, a mechanical engineer, is a well-known face of the party on the electronic media. During the 2014 Lok Sabha election, he was member of the four-member committee looking after publicity.
