The UP Sunni Central Waqf Board announced on Saturday that it would decide on asking for the five-acre land in Ayodhya for building mosque only after obtaining opinion of its legal team.
The Sunni Waqf Board had earlier announced that it would not file a review or curative petition against the November 9 verdict of the Supreme Court, awarding 2.27 acres of disputed land in Ayodhya for the construction of a Ram temple.
UP Sunni Waqf Board Chairman Zufar Farooqui said in Lucknow that the Board would analyse the 1,000 page judgement of the Supreme Court at a meeting of the Board scheduled to be held in Lucknow on November 26.
The Sunni Waqf Board chief, however, said that since All-India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) represented all sects of Muslims and different schools of thoughts on Islam, the Sunni Waqf Board would pay due importance to its opinion.
The AIMPLB has voiced serious disagreement with the apex court judgement and has already announced to file a review petition in the apex court against the verdict.
Farooqui said that Jamiat Ulema (Arshad Madani faction) chief Maulana Arshad Madani also said that the Sunni Waqf Board should not accept the five-acre land as provided vide the Supreme Court verdict.
“We have been flooded with opinions and suggestions from different sections of Muslim community and some suggest that along with Babri mosque, educational institution could be set up on the five-acre land. We will discuss all suggestions in the Sunni Waqf Board meeting on November 26. A final call will be taken after considering all suggestions and the opinion of our legal team,” Farooqui said.
