Tatanagar railway gets 2nd foot overbridge

Thursday, 17 October 2019 | PNS | Jamshedpur

The long wait of passengers for a second railway foot over bridge at the Tatanagar railway station came to an end on Wednesday.

Jamshedpur MP Bidyut Baran Mahto inaugurated the Rs 1.96 crore new second foot overbridge at the Adityapur-end of the A 1-category railway station." It is one the ambitious projects of the railways and I am happy to inaugurate it.

The second foot overbridge will enhance passenger amenities at the Tatanagar railway station. Passengers would be immensely benefitted as the rush would be shared between the two foot overbridges," said Mahto. He said that steps are being taken to increase facilities at the station.

Officials of the railway station informed that the second foot overbridge would help passengers to enter into platform no. 2, 3, 4 and 5. The second foot overbridge would be later extended upto the Burmamines end, which serves as the second entry to the Tatanagar railway station. The official went on to say that work for the foot overbridge on the Chakradharpur end of the railway station will be of great advantage.

"The old abandoned bridge was converted into a foot overbridge. This will also benefit passengers entering the railway station from the Burmamines-end, the second entry to the railway station," he said.

The engineering wing of Chakradharpur railway division  started work on the foot overbridge  project in December, 2017. Though the project missed two deadlines but it managed to complete after pujas.  In the last deadline the railways had promised to commission the project before the Pujas. ADRM Sinha said that commissioning the project at Tatanagar will add to the amenities. The second footbridge would be connected to the Burmamines end so that those passengers entering the station from the second entry can also use the facility.Senior railway officials including additional divisional railway manager ( ADRM) of Chakradharpur division  B K Sinha, area railway manager of Tatanagar Vikas Kumar and senior divisional commercial manager of Chakradharpur Manish Pathak were present on the occasion.

Tatanagar  railway station, located on the Howrah-Mumbai main line,  witnesses 45 pairs of express, mail and passenger trains, serving as many as 60,000 passengers daily.  Most of the long distance and high profile trains including Bhubaneshwar-New Delhi Rajdhani Express, Howrah-Mumbai Duronto Express and Puri-New Delhi Purushottam Superast Express  usually halt in platform no. 2,3 4 and 5.
