Beware while hiring domestic helps without police verification, they can be members of “Bhagam Bhag gang” and they may also turn out to be thieves who harbour the sole motive to enter the households on the pretext of works and then decamp with cash and valuables at the first available opportunity.
The sleuths of Delhi Police North West district have arrested a 19-year-old girl who had allegedly stolen jewellery worth Rs 15 lakhs and cash from a home in Kohat Enclave, Delhi’s Pitampura where she used to work as a “domestic help”.
The accused is identified as Khusboo, a resident of village Khanpur in district Samastipur of Bihar. According to Vijanta Arya, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), North West district, on May 17, an incident of house theft was reported at Subhash Place Police Station.
“In complaint, the woman, who is a resident of Kohat Enclave in Delhi’s Pitampura reported that she had hired a domestic help namely Khusboo about 20 days ago. On May 17 her domestic help left her house on the pretext of some emergency.
After this, complainant realised that some ornaments and cash which were kept in almirah were missing following which she approached the police,” said the DCP.
“A case was registered and investigation was taken up. During investigation, it is found that the servant verification was not got done by the complainant so far and she does not have any information including address, photo about the alleged girl Khusboo,” said the DCP.
“The police team checked various CCTV cameras installed in the vicinity and during analysis of CCTV footage, Khusboo was found roaming in the area of I-block, Shakurpur, Delhi following which the police team swung intyo action and the girl was apprehended was her rented house in JJ colony in Shakurpur area,” said the DCP.
“During interrogation, the accused confessed of committing theft in her employer’s house and she was arrested in this case.
The stolen cash and other items have been recovered on her instance from her rented house.
She told police that due to her poor financial condition, she became greedy and committed theft at her employer’s house,” the DCP added.
