Thieves uproot ATM loaded with Rs 30 lakh in Dwarka

A gang of enterprising thieves stole the entire Automatic Teller Machine (ATM) which was loaded with Rs 30 lakh on Tuesday night.

The sensational incident of thieves uprooting the ATM machine and then escaping unchallenged was reported in the densely populated Dwarka ‘s Nawada area. The ATM belonging to Corporation Bank  was installed near the Nawada Metro Station.

Investigators tasked to crack this case, suspect the hand of certain insiders and all those involved in carrying the cash and then loading the same in the ATM are being scanned.

According to a senior police official, the incident came to light after the branch manager of the bank lodged a complaint on Tuesday regarding the incident.

“In his complaint the bank manager stated that the bank and its ATM operate from 9 am to 9 pm. The same scheduled was followed by them on Monday and when they came on Tuesday, they found the ATM machine was missing,” said the senior police official.

“During initial investigation, it was revealed that criminals came to the ATM and cut the wire of the CCTV which was placed outside the ATM after covering its lens with grease. They ten coolely uprooted the ATM and decamped from the scene,” said the police official. 

“Investigation has been launched and police teams are checking the footage of the camera which was installed inside ATM premises.  The manager of the bank  reportedly told police that the bank had filled Rs 16 lakh on Monday at around 3.30 pm in the machine and the total amount in the machine was Rs 30 lakh,” the police official said.

“A case has been registered and the investigation initiated. Police formed teams to nab the accused persons. Further investigation is going on,” said Anto Alphonse, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Dwarka district.

When asked about any suspected person, the DCP said that they are investigating all conceivable angles and cannot rule out the involvement of the staff which will be cleared once the investigation is completed.
