Three rare marine fishes have been caught during fishing in the Bay of Bengal off the Paradip coast.
The fishes called ‘marlin’ were netted by fishermen on Thursday.
The local fishermen call the species ‘Panikua’ fishes that normally weigh around 2.70 quintals. Reports said one of the netted fishes weighed 1.5 quintals and the two others 60 kg each.
Locals rushed to the site to see the rare fishes. Later, the fishes were exported to other States for sale.
In October, a marlin fish had been caught during fishing in deep sea off the Dhamra coast in Bhadrak. In November, a rare ‘fastest’ marine fish ‘sailfish’ was caught at Talchua village under Rajnagar block in Kendrapada district.
