On the State wise strike of Uttarakhand Parivahan Mahasangh on Wednesday, commuters had to face major inconvenience across the State. Although in Dehradun some commercial vehicles were operating, yet in Rishikesh and several other mountainous regions, the strike was fully imposed.
The Mahasangh president Sudhir Rai said, “In Rishikesh our strike was completely successful. No commercial vehicle operated on Wednesday. Similarly, in districts like Uttarkashi, Tehri and Chamoli no commercial vehicle was operational. In Dehradun, vehicles of few union members operated but as we said earlier that the protest was conducted with voluntary participation.”
About their next course of action he said, “As of now we have got no update about the cabinet’s decision. On Thursday after receiving information about the cabinet’s decision, we will make further plans accordingly.”
It is pertinent to mention here that against the hiked penalties under the Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Act 2019, Uttarakhand Parivahan Mahasangh had called on all transport unions of the State to not operate their commercial vehicles for one day as a mark of protest.
