Tribal coffee growers to get economic boost

Friday, 13 September 2019 | PNS | BHUBANESWAR

Coffee is now going to bring sweet taste of better economic returns in the life and livelihoods of large numbers of small and marginal tribal coffee growers.

The State Government through its dedicated tribal welfare organisation TDCCOL along with the Coffee Board of India will provide an end to end solution for boosting the growth of coffee plantation and small holder planters.

“The TDCCOL has set up a processing and warehousing facility at Sunabeda for curing parchment and cherry coffee, clean coffee grading and storage,” said TDCCOL Managing Director Mansi Nimbhal.

“The TDCCOL would directly procure parchment and cherry from small and marginal tribal farmers through aggregation centers on mutually agreed price with direct beneficiary transfer (DBT).

A Micro testing lab will be set up soon,” added Nimbhal.

As man y as 11 retail outlets of TDCCOL named Adisha as well through ecommerce adisha.in and amazon.in are selling Koraput Coffee in premium packaging.

The Coffee Board of India is the lead technical partner, providing support on coffee plantation development.

It is providing guidance to coffee growers on best management practices for pre and post-harvest techniques.

The Coffee Board helps out in skill building of small and marginal coffee farmers on better cultural

practices to increase production, standardization of quality parameters for parchment, cherry and cleancoffee as well as technical support for setting up processing unit, micro testing lab and warehouse.
