An incident of traffic violation has cost a truck owner a whopping Rs 6.53 lakh as penalty. The truck owner was slapped the fine by the Sambhalpur RTO for various offences.
What's more surprising was that the incident took place much before the implementation of the newly amended Motor Vehicles (MV) Act.
The fine was levied on August 10 in violation of the old MV Act much before the new road rules came into effect.
The challan amounting to Rs 6.53,100 is the highest traffic penalty in the country till date.
The truck, which was registered in Nagaland, is owned by one Shailesh Shankar Lal Gupta of Bethel Colony in Phek town of Nagaland. The RTO issued the fine for driving without road tax payment and not carrying documents including vehicle insurance.
The driver was also issued a challan for violating air and noise pollution norms and carrying passengers on the goods vehicle as well. Apart from this, the vehicle violated permit conditions, said sources.
