Two dreaded criminals killed in encounter

Two dreaded criminals, allegedly wanted in connection with a Rs 10-lakh loot in Meerut district, were shot dead in an encounter with police in Pallavpuram Phase-2 late Thursday night, police confirmed on Friday.

Three police personnel also sustained injuries during the encounter.

Senior Superintendent of Police in Meerut, Ajay Sahani, said that both the criminals, Shakil and Zakir, were wanted in connection with a recent case of looting of Rs 10 lakh from a collection agent and carried a reward of Rs 25,000 each on their arrest.

Both the criminals were critically injured in the encounter which took place near Uday Park and succumbed to their injuries on the way to hospital.

The injured policemen were admitted to hospital and their condition was said to be stable.     

The SSP said both the criminals were history-sheeters and had over two dozen cases registered against them.

Police recovered two country-made pistols and Rs 4.25 lakh in cash from the possession of the criminals.
