Two people including a teacher were killed in a road accident at Berinag in Pithoragarh district on Thursday after the driver of their car lost control, causing the vehicle to fall down a 400 metre deep gorge. The deceased teacher has been identified as Dheeraj Kumar Bankot, while the other person accompanying him has not been identified yet.
Station Officer of Berinag Police station, Sub-Inspector Hem Chandra Pant giving details about the incident said, “The accident happened at about 2:30 in the afternoon. Our team went to rescue, however both the passengers inside were dead on the spot.”
Giving further details he said, “One of the deceased has been identified as 45 years old Dheeraj Kumar Bankot, while the person with him has still not been identified. It seems that Dheeraj was taking this person as a helping hand for a family function. They were travelling from Ganai to Bankot at the time of accident.”
He added, “The accident took place in an area under revenue police. The bodies were sent for post-mortem. Family of deceased Dheeraj has been informed about the accident.”
