Two Maoist insurgents were gunned down in an encounter with security forces in the insurgency-hit Bijapur district police said here on Sunday.
The skirmish took place at around 8 am in forest of Pamed police station area when a joint a joint team of the special anti-Naxal Greyhounds unit of Telangana and Chhattisgarh police was out on an anti-naxal operation along the inter–state border, state’s Deputy Inspector General (anti-naxal operations) Sundarraj said.
Acting on specific intelligence, a team of the Greyhounds and Chhattisgarh Police's Special Task Force (STF) and district force had launched operations along the inter-state border, around 500 km from Raipur, he said.
When the security forces were cordoning off the forests of Pamed, the gun-battle broke out.
“After gun fell silent, bodies of two ultras were recovered from the spot,” Sundarraj informed.
A few weapons were also recovered from the spot but more details are awaited as the search operation was still underway in the area.
