In a road mishap, two youths were killed on the spot and a third was seriously injured as the motorcycle they were riding on hit a stationary trailer at Rugri on NH-33 under Kapali thana out-post (TOP) area near Jamshedpur at the wee hours of Sunday.
The youths were returning home at Purisilli after attending a cultural program during the Basanti Durga Puja celebration at Rugri in Kapali. Those killed were identified as Kartik Das (24) and Sukhdev Singh (22), both residents of Purisilli.
The injured identified as Nirmal Singh (23). The locals rushed the injured to the MGM Medical College Hospital where his condition is said to be serious.
According to police, the bike was at a high speed and as they couldn’t see the stationary trailer parked along the national highway in which they hit causing the mishap.
OC, Kapali TOP, Satyadev Singh said none of the three victims were wearing helmet and they all had sustained head injury due to the collision with the stationary trailer.
The OC said they have seized the trailer and also the bike which was damaged in the mishap. A section of the residents belonging to Rugri and Purisilli villages set up a blockade at the spot of mishap on the NH-33, demanding compensation for those killed in the mishap.
The blockade continued till 8 am today, causing a large number of vehicles to remain stranded on either side of the blockade site at Rugri on the NH-33. The protesters did not allow the police to lift the body as long as the blockade continued.
The blockade was removed after the local police assured the protesters that the compensation will be paid by the insurance company concerned.
Later, the police had recovered the two bodies and sent them to the MGM Medical College mortuary for postmortem.
