Umesh Kumar files complaint against cops in sting case

Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of a private news channel accused in the infamous sting case has filed a complaint against police personnel of Uttarakhand including inspector Arvind Kumar, who is presently posted in Police Line Dehradun under different sections.

In his complaint, he has accused Dehradun district police of using fabricated documents to secure search and arrest warrants from the court.

He has also accused the police of working on the orders of the Chief Minister’s office.

Kumar admitted that he conducted a sting operation on Uttarakhand's current CM, his relatives and senior Government officials of the State but maintained that he has never tried to blackmail anyone.

Umesh Kumar on May 6 filed a complaint with the Station House Officer (SHO) of Indrapuram Police Station, Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh filed a complaint against Arvind Kumar under sections 166, 167, 191, 192, 196, 202, 203, 402, 420, 441, 467, 468, 471, 120b and 34 of Indian Penal Code.  

Umesh Kumar accused Arvind Kumar, the then investigating officer (IO) of the case that was filed against him by complainant Ayush Gaur (employee of the same news channel Umesh Kumar is CEO of) on August 10, 2018, of  working under the directions and control of “highest powers” within Uttarakhand.

He also alleged that the complainant in this case, Ayush Gaur was also acting at the behest of these powerful people.

When asked about this, DG, Law and Order, Ashok Kumar refused to make any comments on the subject.

It is pertinent to mention here that the on April 28 last year Umesh Kumar was arrested by the police after a complaint was filed against him by one of his employees, who accused him of forcing his employees to conduct a sting operation and then using the video footage for blackmailing.

About Rs 39 lakh in cash, some foreign currency and equipment used to conduct sting operation was recovered from his house, along with number of CDs and hard drives.

It is also worth mentioning here that Umesh Kumar was earlier applauded by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for conducting the infamous sting operation of the then Uttarakhand CM Harish Rawat in 2016.
