Unnao rape victim’s accident

Friday, 02 August 2019 | PNS | Lucknow

With the apex court setting a deadline to complete the probe into the Rae Bareli accident involving Unnao rape victim, sleuths of Central Bureau of Investigation speeded up the investigation on Thursday.

With the top court of the country hardening its stance, the UP Police swung into damage control mode and suspended three cops deployed for the security of the rape victim and her family.

A CBI team led by Assistant Superintendent of Police, CBI ACB, Ram Singh, that had inspected the spot on Wednesday, recorded the statements of the driver, the cleaner and the owner of the truck involved in the accident and also the local police officials.

The CBI team also sought from the UP Police forensic team the evidence they had collected from the spot on the fateful day.

According to sources, the CBI team has sought the call details records of all relevant persons, including the accused and their associates.

They has also asked for the call details record of rape accused MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar’s henchmen on the day of the accident.

Similar details have been sought of the mobile phones of security personnel deployed with the rape victim.

The CBI team is trying to ascertain whether any communication was made to inform the location of the victim. The sleuths are also trying to collect Close Circuit Television (CCTV) recordings of toll plazas through which the truck or the victim’s vehicle passed on the fateful day to find any suspicious vehicle following them.

On Thursday, after the apex court hardened its stand over lax police role in the case, Superintendent of Police of Unnao, MP Verma, suspended constable Sudesh Kumar and women constables Sunita Devi and Ruby Patel, who were deployed for the security of the rape victim and her family, for dereliction of duty.

Meanwhile, the body of Unnao rape victim’s second aunt, who was also killed in the accident in Rae Bareli on Sunday, was consigned to flames in her village in Subeha area of Barabanki on Thursday. The last rites were performed by her son in the presence of her two daughters.

One of her daughters said, “It is nothing but a well-planned murder. My mother was targeted as she was staying with the rape victim for the last nine months and pursued the rape case in court.”
