Thursday, 12 September 2019 | PNS | Lucknow

Both Houses of Uttar Pradesh legislature will meet for special sessions to mark the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi from 11 am on October 2. The sessions will continue till late in the night on October 3.

Earlier, the government had announced to hold a 48-hour uninterrupted special session of the UP legislature on the occasion.

State government spokesperson Shrikant Sharma said in Lucknow on Tuesday that the state Cabinet had approved the holding of the special sessions.

“The special sessions will discuss the ideology and policies of Mahatma Gandhi and debate on the 17-point charter of sustainable development goals of United Nations resolution signed by India in 2015,” Sharma said.

During the special sessions, every member of both Houses will be allowed to speak about development of their respective areas.

The UN goals primarily pertain to poverty alleviation, gender inequality elimination, malnutrition, health for all, energy for all, education for all, nutrition, drinking water, gender equality etc.

“The legislators will get a chance to put forth their views in the special session and speak out the problems of their respective constituencies and also suggest ways to sustainable development,” Sharma said.

Last month, an all-party meeting had concurred to hold the special sessions on the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.
