The farmers everywhere in Nuapada district are aggrieved over nonavailability of urea in crucial season for crops.
"Urea is not available in the district since last one and a half months. Farmers are forced to buy urea in exorbitant price from traders of Balangir district," alleged Sanjay Tiwari, a farmer leader of the district.
"Being informed by one of my relatives that urea is available in Bhalumunda and Belpada villages of Balangir district, I had gone there, but after seeing cotton farmers paying Rs 450 per packet of 45 kg, I returned," said Nurtan Sabar, a small farmer of Chhatrang village.
"Urea was supplied to Balangir district recently, but Nuapada was spared. The administration advises us to procure urea from Balangir, but we denied, because the transport cost would be more and we will incur loss," said a fertilizer sale agent of Khariar.
"We will be forced to resort to agitation if urea is not supplied to the district in next two three days. The DDA has assured that he would take the matter with the District Collector and we are waiting for their response," said Tiwari.
