The Delhi Police has detained several suspects in connection with the alleged gangrape of a 31-year-old Uzbekistan national by three men in a moving car in Vasant Kunj area.
The incident had occurred on Saturday.
The Uzbekistan national had approached the police on Saturday and filed a complaint in which she alleged that she was gangraped and beaten up by three men inside a moving car in South West Delhi's Vasant Kunj area.
According to a senior police official, five police teams have been formed to identify the accused and bring them to justice.
"The woman has named the three men in the incident and claimed that she knew them in person. Based on the complaint, a case has been registered and the matter is being investigated.
We have detained some suspects in this case and are questioning her friends," said Devender Arya, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), South West district.
"Police teams are scanning the CCTV footages of the area to ascertain the woman's claims," said the DCP.
"Woman in her complaint stated that her friend, who is also one of the accused, called her to meet on Saturday near a mall in Vasant Kunj. He picked her from Vasant Kunj, took her to Gurugram in his Scorpio car in which two of his friends were already sitting," said the police official.
"The men started assaulting her and even beat her up when she resisted. The three took turns to rape her and later, she was dumped near her flat," said the police official.
"When the victim narrated the whole incident to her friends, they took her to AIIMS. The hospital staff informed police. Medical report is awaited," said the police official.
The woman had come to India two months ago and was living with her friends in Madangir area in South east Delhi. One of the accused had had befriended her seven months ago on ‘Facebook’, police said.
