In a bid to provide safe and clean drinking water to the villagers Vedanta-Electrosteel Steels Limited installed at Solar power water pump at Gidditand village in Chandankiyari under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).

While inaugurating the solar pump District Council President Sushma Devi said, this is a very good initiative from the company, now the villagers can get clean and safe drinking water.

Speaking on the occasion she said there is a lot of water scarcity not only in the district but across the state too, so we should also pay attention to water conservation and prevent wastage of water.

Every person on earth needs water to survive. Without it, many of us would get sick and even result in death. While almost 70 percent of the earth is made up of water, many parts of the world suffer from clean water shortage. Conserving water is important because it keeps water pure and clean while protecting the environment, she said.

Speaking on the occasion, C P Pandey the Senior General Manager of Vedanta- Electrosteel Steels Limited said, this system is completely based on solar energy, which will not require electricity. In this, water is pumped out using solar energy and kept in the tank, which people will be able to use through the tap, he said.

We are committed for the holistic development of the surrounding villages. Our company is working on several developmental works in many surrounding villages, he said.

Conserving water means using our water supply or sources wisely and be responsible. As every individual depends on water for livelihood, we must learn how to keep our limited supply of water pure and away from pollution, said Pandey. "Keeping our water supply safe and pure will protect the water for the generations to come," he added.

Stressing on the need and importance of water conservation Punam a social activist said, since 71 percent of the earth is covered in water, many of the people wonder that, why should they conserve water.

As they are still unaware that ninety-seven percent of all water on the earth is saltwater, which is not suitable for drinking. Only three percent of the water on this earth is freshwater, and only 0.5 percent is available for drinking, she said.

According to the US report, the other 2.5 percent of freshwater is locked in ice caps, glaciers, the atmosphere, soil, or under the earth's surface, or is too polluted for consumption, she said.

"With growing population rates and such a small percentage of all the water on the earth fit for consumption, it only makes sense that we must preserve and conserve this precious resource," added Punam.

Water conservation means using our limited water supply wisely and caring for it properly. Since each of us depends on water to sustain life, it is our responsibility to learn more about water conservation and how we can help keep our sources pure and safe for generations to come, she said.
