The Village Level Worker (VLW) of Golarhat gram panchayat in the district was attacked by unidentified miscreants at Chhata Chhak on Monday.
The injured VLW Nihar Ranjan Thatoi was admitted to the District Headquarters Hospital here.
Sources said a resident of Golarhat was forcing Thatoi to pass two bills for construction of houses under the Indira Awaas Yojana (IAY).
As Thatoi refused saying that it was illegal, the man along with five other associates attacked the VLW while he was returning home in the evening.
Later, Derabish BDO Gopabandhu Bhosagar lodged a complaint with the Sadar police in this connection.
Police are investigating into the incident and are on the lookout for the accused.
