Voter’s slip no longer valid ID proof for voting

Tuesday, 23 April 2019 | Staff Reporter | RAIPUR

Election Commission of India has listed 12 documents, out of which the voter will have to carry at least one to exercise their franchise.

The voters slip alone is no longer a valid identification document that can be used to vote, officials informed here on Monday.

One will not be allowed to vote if their name is missing in the voting list. Voters can check their names in electoral roll in the website of Chief Electoral Officer Chhattisgarh, through toll free call centre (1950) or SMS service and also via voter helpline application.

The document that can be used at the time of voting include Electoral Photo-Identity Card (EPIC), Aadhar card, passport, driving license, centre and state government, government institutions issued photo-identity card, bank or post office issued passbook with photograph, PAN card, MGNREGA job card, health insurance card, photo-based pension document, MP, MLAs issued photo-identity card and Smart card issued by Registrar General of India. Non-Resident Indians can produce their passport as their identity card.

Election Commission has made it clear that earlier voter’s slip was being allowed as an identity paper which was being published after the final publication of electoral roll. But there was no guarantee of identification as there is no photo of the bearer attached to a voting slip.
