The 23rd Vyasa Sarowar Mahotshav and Vyasa Marathan kicked off here on Friday amid religious fervour. The festival would be a low key affairs this year, informed Kalinganagar ADM Vyasanagar Municipality Administrator Santosh Kumar Mishra at a Press conference here on Thursday.
While Rs 32 lakh had been spenc last year, it has been targeted to spend Rs 16 lakh this year. The administration has taken the charge of holding the festival as the Municipality council has been dissolved.
The ‘Mela’ would continue till February 25. Drinking water, sanitation and other basic facilities have been provided. While CCTV cameras have been installed to keep vigil on mischief mongers, an Information Cetntre is operating to provide require help to people.
While there is no official record regarding starting year of the Mahotsav, a local said a ‘Sadhu’ from Kerala had started the ‘Mela’ long ego.
