A watchman has alleged that six of them were assaulted by a forest ranger and deputy ranger in Haripur Tongia under Bhagwanpur Tehsil. It is alleged that the Khanpur ranger asked six watchmen to cut Khair trees illegally.
The watchmen refused following which the ranger and deputy ranger allegedly locked them in a room and beat them. The watchmen then approached the Bhagwanpur police station and requested for help.
The purported victims have also reportedly complained to the Bhagwanpur sub divisional magistrate. The Bhagwanpur police SO, Sanjeev Thapliyal said that the matter had come to their notice. The case is being investigated and necessary action will be taken as per the findings.
