A 13-year-old girl found in the FM University campus here on Thursday evening was rescued and admitted in the District Headquarters Hospital.
She appeared to be mentally unstable and was shouting in the campus.
Preliminarily, it was known that she hails from the Ramnagar area in West Bengal and is daughter of one Sudhanshu Bhuyan.
However, it was yet to be ascertained by the child protection and welfare agencies how she reached here. Some students informed the university authorities and the latter further informed about it to ADM Sambit Nayak. Nayak in turn informed the District Child Protection Officer (DCPO) as well as Child Welfare Committee (CWC).
The girl was rescued by the DCPO and admitted in the DHH as she complained of chest pain and other ailments.
From the District Nari Sangha, one representative had been deputed to look after the child's safety and treatment.
CWC Chairman Bhagirathi Barik said, “The child’s parents are contacted and they would be reaching to take her back. Her parents said she went away from home without informing any one. Previously also, she did so twice. It appears she is mentally unstable and needs care and treatment.”
Nari Sangha president Gopamudra Mohapatra said, “The girl’s medical examinations are being carried out to ascertain whether she was sexually abused.
Till her parents’ arrival, she would be in the Nari Sangha after being discharged from the hospital.”
