Refuting allegation against him for distributing pamphlets, debutant Lok Sabha candidate for East Delhi, Gautam Gambhir on Thursday said he will file defamation case against AAP.
"You cannot tarnish someone's image just like that, if you don't have the proof. I have never given a negative statement against anyone so far in my election campaigning," said Gambhir.
Gambhir's reaction came after Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) contender, Atishi Marlena, broke down during the conference and said that Gambhir is responsible for spreading sleazy and defamatory pamphlets against her.
Notably, both Marlena and Gambhir are contenders for East Delhi Lok Sabha seat.
Pertinently, the pamphlet makes wild and defamatory claims about Marlena. The letter was circulated widely on social media by various top AAP leaders and the party's official account.
Gambhir, cricketer-turned-politician said, "If they (AAP) can get a proof, I'll resign right now and if they get a proof by 23rd I'll resign on that day itself. But if Arvind Kejriwal does not get the proof, does he accept the challenge that he will leave politics forever on 23rd? "I declare that if its proven that I did it, I will withdraw my candidature right now. If not, will u quit politics" Gambhir tweeted Addressing reporters in Delhi BJP State office, Gambhir said that I entered politics with good intentions. "I live in the family of five women, I will not play dirty politics," said Gambhir.
Supporting Gambhir, Major Surendra Poonia (retd) quoted Arvind Kejriwal's tweet and tweeted: Gautam Gambhir is a man with high moral values n will never ever indulge is such sinful pamphlet against any1 incl Atishi Marlena.
BJP leader Shazia Ilmi also tweeted, “Kejriwal, It's act of your dirty trick dept which once spread same kind of filth abt Shazia Ilmi. I dare you to accept @GautamGambhir’s challenge.”
