Woman APO gunned down in Etah

Wednesday, 07 August 2019 | PNS | Lucknow

Unidentified miscreants struck terror in Etah by guning down a woman Assistant Prosecution Officer (APO) inside Reserve Police Lines on Tuesday while in Pratapgarh, motorcycle-borne miscreants shot at a head constable attached with Dial-100.

In Etah, APO Nutan Yadav was shot dead at her residence in Reserve Police Lines on the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday. Yadav (35), a native of Agra and unmarried, used to live in government quarters alone. The accused fired several rounds and she sustained five bullet wounds.

Etah SSP Swapnil Mamgain said: “Prima facie, those visiting her house are under the scanner. Her family members also suspect the role of these persons. It seems she was eliminated at the behest of some close acquaintance.”

However, the officer failed to explain as to how could no one notice the incident when five rounds of fire were made in the high-security campus of police lines. The incident was noticed only on Tuesday morning when the maid reached Yadav’s s house for work and found the doors ajar. When she went inside, she found the body lying in a pool of blood. She raised an alarm and the police were informed.

A case was registered and investigations were on. Two months back, first woman president of Uttar Pradesh Bar Council Darvesh Yadav (38) was shot dead in Agra court premises by a fellow advocate on June 12. The assailant later shot himself dead.

Meanwhile, in Noida, a woman Supreme Court lawyer was found murdered inside her bungalow in Noida Sector 31 on July 4. The police had said two of the lawyer’s domestic helps — a couple, who had been hired in June last week were absconding and were the suspects. Kuljeet Kaur (60) was found dead with her hands and legs tied up and mouth gagged with a piece of cloth.

Elsewhere in Pratapgarh, head constable Bholanath attached with Dial-100 Police Response Vehicle (PRV) was standing at Bhupiyamau crossing under Kotwali police station area late on Monday night when he signalled three persons riding a Pulsar motorcycle to stop.

Insteading of stopping the bike, one of the riders opened fire, injuring the constable. The other cops tried to intercept the miscreants, but they managed to speed off towards Lucknow-Varanasi highway. The injured cop was taken to district hospital and later referred to medical college in Prayagraj. A case was registered and efforts were being made to track down the accused.
