The Baidyanathpur police here arrested a woman on the charge of impersonating as Central Electric Authority Chief and duping senior citizens of whopping Rs 1.70 crore on the promise of returning double their amount in different pension schemes.
The woman was identified as Madhusmita Mohapatro (27), a resident of the Ramba area. She was staying in a rented house at Ayodha Nagar.
Madhusmita’s fraud came to the fore after one Tripura Prasad Rath lodged a complaint with the police alleging that she had taken moneyh from him to facilitate him get pension. The police conducted an investigation and arrested her from Cuttack on Tuesday.
During investigation, the police got to know that Madhusmita had taken Rs 1.70 crore from 16 senior citizens. The accused has been forwarded to court and further investigations are on said, Sadar SDPO Bishnu Pati.
