Tension gripped the top B-school XLRI campus as a second year HRM student of XLRI died under mysterious circumstances on the institute's campus under Bistupur police station area early Friday morning. The student Shashwat Dixit (26) was rushed to Tata Main Hospital, where the doctors on emergency duty declared him as brought dead.

Police have seized the body and kept it in the Tata Main Hospital morgue. The XLRI management has informed the deceased's parents about the incident.  The parents who are residents of Kanpur are on their way to the steel city.

A communiqué issued by XLRI said, “We are extremely sad to inform you about the sudden demise of one of our students Shashwat Dixit today morning. He had an accidental fall while walking towards another hostel and was rushed to the hospital. Shashwat was a 2nd year student of Human Resource Management 2017-19. He hails from Kanpur, UP. His parents have been informed and they are on their way to Jamshedpur. We extend our deepest condolence to his family.”

According to sources in the B-school, Shashwat stayed at room No 11 on ground floor of St Thomas Hostel and was walking towards another hostel, Mother Teresa Residency in the campus as he fell down in front of the hostel at 5.50 am today. Some faculty members who found him lying near the Mother Teresa Hostel, a girls hostel, rushed him to Tata Main Hospital.

As Shashwat would stay in the single room and none of the students is able to say what happened to him, causing him to die so suddenly. Shashwat was of the 17-19 batch students and was selected for Acceture Talent Accelerator Programme in the pre-placement offer.

As the news spread, OC, Bistupur police station, Srineewash rushed to the Tata Main Hospital and started investigation.  Later superintendent of police (city) Prabhat Kumar and deputy superintendent of police (composite control room) Sudhir Kumar also reached the spot for investigation.

"It is too early to comment. The student, Shashwat Dixit was found lying in front of the Mother Teresa Residency at about 5.50 am.  There is no apparent reason behind the death and the cause of death can be known only after the autopsy of the body," said Srineewash.

The OC said the deceased student's parents are on their way to the steel city.  He said they would shift the body to the MGM Medical College mortuary for post-mortem only after arrival of Shashwat's parents.

Srineewash said they are trying to find out the fact by scanning CCTV footage gathered from the campus.
