Yogi: Oppn have exposed themselves by remaining absent from Houses

Friday, 04 October 2019 | PNS | Lucknow

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Thursday continued his attack on opposition parties, saying they had exposed themselves by remaining absent from both the Houses of  UP legislature during the discussion on sustainable development goals.

“By distancing themselves from the discussions, the opposition have proved that they are not concerned about Gandhiji’s philosophy or the well-being of the poor. For Congress, Samajwadi Party and Bahujan Samaj Party, power is equal to loot and not public service,” he said.

The Chief Minister was speaking on the second day of UP Legislative Council’s marathon 36-hour special session on Thursday.

In his address, the Chief Minister gave detailed information related to steps taken by the state government for achieving the sustainable development goals.

“We have to work on the goals that we have set to eradicate poverty, hunger and unemployment from the world. In order to achieve these goals, 2030 vision has been prepared and Prime Minister Narendra Modi has taken steps towards meeting these goals,” Yogi Adityanath said.

The Chief Minister said that the opposition parties were boycotting the special session being held on the occasion of the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.

“These are people who have no faith in democratic values and ideology of Mahatma Gandhi. We spoke to the opposition leaders for the special session, but they could not stay away from doing politics on this too.”

The Chief Minister said that Prime Minister Modi had pledged to make India a five-trillion dollar economy by 2024 and it was the responsibility of the entire country to achieve this goal.

“Uttar Pradesh will contribute USD 1 trillion to the target and the state government has started working on it,” he added.

The Chief Minister said pointed out that after independence, there were many places in UP that did not have basic facilities. He said during the tenures of the previous regimes, people used to wander for basic amenities.

“There were 54 localities across the state where there was no road, education, water, electricity, and medical facilities. These people did not get the benefit of any welfare schemes of the government. By giving the status of revenue village, our government provided full benefits to Vantangia villages,” the Chief Minister said.

Enumerating the achievements of the state government, the Chief Minister said that id had worked to raise the standard of living of the people through different schemes.

“During the tenures of previous governments, ration allocated for the poor did not reach them, but in our government, 3.55 crore families have started getting wheat and rice. With the help of technology, the state government has successfully controlled cases of pilferage and theft and saved Rs 700 crore. In 2016, wheat used to cost Rs 900-1000 per quintal, whereas Rs 1860 per quintal is being deposited in the accounts of farmers in 2019 (for the wheat procured from them),” the Chief Minister said.

By organising Suposhan Mela, Uttar Pradesh has become the first state to have launched a special campaign for malnourished children and pregnant women, Yogi Adityanath added.

The Chief Minister further said that when talking of all-round development one should talk of ‘5Ps’ — People, Prosperity, Peace, Partnership and Planet (Earth) — fixed by the UNO in 2015 for achieving goal of sustainable development.

He said that in reality the all-round development agenda of the UNO was basically to adopt a brave and practical approach which would eradicate poverty, starvation besides facilitating to achieve qualitative education, good health, pollution control and various means of organic farming along with a safe environment.

He claimed that by following the above the government would also achieve the goals of ensuring equality amongst all, justice for all and a secured world.

Yogi Adityanath asserted that the nation was celebrating the 150th birth anniversary of the Father of Nation, Mahatma Gandhi, which had helped it to attach with 120 more countries which found themselves associated with the preaching and path shown by Mahatma Gandhi.
