Youngster enthralls with artworks

Friday, 18 October 2019 | PNS | Haridwar

Aditya Joshi is a young painter whose brush strokes have adorned the city wall running parallel to National Highway-57 connecting the over-bridge of Laltarao. A series of portraits of sages, Lord Shiva, done by students, attract the eyes of tourists who come to Har Ki Paidi driving past the National Highway. The class XII student of Delhi Public School had the earliest rendezvous with colours quite young and by class V he had mastered the art of making illustrations related to the chapter in the book.

The young lad of 17 years, Aditya, never learnt the art of shading from any teacher. “It was his inborn quality which surprised us too,” says his mother Sangeeta Joshi, a school teacher. “Even in his prep junior class, he never liked to fill colours with crayons, which he considered messy, and chose to do line art and fill.

His drawings were so precise, that everyone was surprised at his talent. He used to draw related picture on his copy of the chapter title which was taught in class,” adds Sangeeta.

To begin with, Aditya drew with pencil colours but later used different mediums on canvas as was demanded in the painting contests. But his inner choice still remains pencil colours with which he drew on the walls of his house, a figure of three horses, a lion’s face.  Though his subjects of art revolve around diverse themes, but saving Ganga and energy conservation are the central themes of his artworks.

His drawing book states that the paintings are as per his mood swings.

He created portrait of his mother that is stunningly lifelike and presented it on her birthday.

The journey that began through home walls with portraits of Lord Shiva and lion’s face got huge with participation in state contests, Uttarakhand Renewbale Energy Development held on National Energy Conservation Day, Annual Akshaya Tritiya Utsav, Eat right creativity challenge by FSSAI, Annual Inter-DPS National Heritage Festival and Art Exhibition to name a few. While he has also shown his talent in theme based works, he wishes to sketch with colour pencils whatever comes to his mind.

The 17-year-old says, “Whenever I am stressed in studies, I draw. A single drawing may take days depending on the mood. I wish to take medicine as my profession so have opted science subjects.”His painting on ‘save Ganga’ theme during Ganga Mahotsav and 6th national painting competition on water pollution won him first prize among thousands of students who took part.
