Youth caught on suspicion of child lifting

Monday, 09 September 2019 | PNS | Garhwa

A young man was caught by villagers and handed over to the local police in Garhwa on the suspicions of being a child thief. The locals mistook the young man, Ajay for being a child lifter after he and four other youth were found wandering in Kalyanpur village, around three km from district headquarters. On seeing unknown faces the villagers started questioning them.

Scared of the questioning the five started running away but after a chase, the villagers managed to nab Ajay while the four others managed to flee. The villagers then handed him over to the police. Garhwa SDPO Om Prakash Tiwari said, "The youth Ajay is acting like he is deranged.

He was unable to give any answers during the interrogation. We have admitted him at the hospital for medical checkup." SP Shivani Tiwari said that rumor of child theft is being reported at some places. “Being suspicious of child lifting, unknown people are being beaten up by the villagers and crowd." She informed that there has been no incident of child theft in Garhwa.  Tiwari said that spreading rumors is a punishable offense.  She appealed to the people to give such information to the concerned police station, DSP and SP.  “Also, give information by dialing 100 numbers.

Immediate action will be taken on receipt of information,” she said.   The SP asked people not to publicize and disseminate the incident and information related to child theft on social media.
