The Delhi Police has arrested 27-year-old man for allegedly cheating innocent people on the pretext of lucky draw on online shopping in national Capital. Police said the accused, along with his associates, used to hire and train undergraduate boys and girls for making outbound calls to their targets and alluring them for shopping from their website (key4kart.com).
The accused has been identified as Deepak Negi who is a native of Tehri, Uttrakhand and was staying presently at Delhi's Sangam Vihar. Police said the accused has duped over one thousand people from across India and received more than Rs 1.5 crore rupees in the last one year.
According to Chinmoy Biswal, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), South East district, one teacher from Odisha filed a complaint in May against an e-commerce company "Key4kart.com".
"The complainant stated that in April, 2018, she received a call from the company who lured her to shop from the website and win a bike in lucky draw," said the DCP.
"She was asked to submit some per cent of the prize value along with her photo and Aadhar ID. She transferred Rs 62,649 in four occasions but did not get any prize," said the DCP.
In an another incident, a person from Gujarat was duped of Rs 5.84 lakh with same modus-operandy.
"During investigation, police got the details of the organisation through bank statement and identified Deepak Negi as the owner of the company. He was arrested on Monday from Kalkaji where he was running his office in the name of another company," said the DCP.
"During interrogation, Negi disclosed that he, along with his associates Parmeshwar, Manmohan, Bharat Lalwani and Ansh Lalwani, had opened the alleged company. They used to dupe people on the pretext of contest and lucky draws," said the DCP.
"They were operating from several years and had cheated over one thousand people from across India. They kept on changing the locations and registering new companies at various addresses by taking properties on rent," said the DCP adding that the accused used to hire and train undergraduate men and women for making calls to their targets and alluring them for shopping from their website.
"Police have recovered two laptops and cheque books from the possession of the accused and manhunt has been initiated to nab the associates of the accused.
