A body of a youth was found in front of the Durlaga gram panchayat office under the Talapatia police station in the district on Monday morning. The deceased was identified as Tapan Sahu (22).
Family members of Sahu alleged that he was pushed from the Panchayat office rooftop by his friends following which he died. Police have detained a person in the connection while another is absconding.
Sources said Sahu had gone outside on Sunday evening to have dinner with his two friends.
But after consuming liquor atop the Panchayat office, he had a heated altercation with his friends. In a fit of rage, the two other friends allegedly pushed Sahu off the terrace killing him on the spot.
On receiving information, the Talapatia police reached the spot in the morning and sent the body to the District Headquarters Hospital (DHH), where he was declared dead.
“One Debraj Singh had come to Sahu’s house at around 11 pm yesterday. When Tapan’s mother called the two for dinner, the former asked her to pack the food saying that they will have it together at the Panchayat office rooftop. Later, at around 1.30 am, Debraj knocked at the door of Sahu’s house and asked their parents to go the Panchayat office before vanishing from the spot. When Sahu’s parents reached there, they found him lying on the ground unconscious,” said a local resident on the condition of anonymity.
