8-year-old killed, sister injured after being hit by mini truck in Delhi

An eight year-old girl died while another 15 year-old girl is battling for her life in hospital after they were allegedly ploughed into a speeding truck in Delhi’s Govindpuri area. The incident occurred on Friday afternoon when both the sisters were returning to their grandmother's house from school.

The deceased has been identified as Sandhya while her sister Kamini is still undergoing treatment at Majidiya Hospital in the area. According to a senior police official, they had received a Police Control Room (PCR) call regarding the incident at around 2 PM following which a team rushed to the spot.

"Both the girls were lying in a pool of blood. They were rushed to HAH Centenary jamia Hamdard Hospital where Sandhya was declared brought dead while Kamini is still undergoing treatment," said the senior police official.

"The driver had fled the spot leaving behind mini Eicher truck on the spot. During initial investigation it was revealed that the girls after school were going to their grandmother house in Valmiki Maholla at Tughlaqabad. They were crossing road at Ravidas Marg, near DDA red light when the speeding truck mowed them down," said the senior police official.

"A case under appropriate sections has been registered at Govindpuri police station. Police have informed the family regarding the incident. Body of the deceased has been sent for autopsy at AIIMS. We have seized the vehicle and through vehicle documents the accused has been identified. Manhunt has been launched. Further investigation is going on," the senior police official added.
