US imposes new sanctions on 4 Venezuelan firms

Washington:  The US has announced sanctions against four oil companies and nine of their vessels to step up pressure on Venezuela and Cuba.

The US Department of the Treasury on Friday “designated four companies that operate in the oil sector of the Venezuelan economy” and “identified nine vessels, some of which transported oil from Venezuela to Cuba, as blocked property owned by the four companies”.

Finland: from suicide hotspot to happiest country

Vantaa: When the UN crowned Finland the world’s happiest nation last month for the second year running, there were still quite a few eyebrows raised. How could this Nordic country, better known for its harsh weather and high suicide rate, be the world’s happiest? Although international comparisons are imperfect due to holes in the data, in 1990 official statistics did indeed indicate that Finland’s suicide rate was the second highest in the world, behind Hungary.
